Scheduling of hearings at the Immigration and Refugee Board

Published: Sep 21, 2022

The Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) has four branches. They are the Immigration Division (ID), Refugee Protection Division (RPD), Refugee Appeal Division (RAD), and the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD).

Since January 18, 2021, in a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IRB has refused to hold in person hearings. This was an emergency measure. On September 20, 2022 the IRB made what was an emergency measure, permanent. Except in exceptional cases, all hearings and appeals before the four branches of the IRB will now be held online.
